Meet Dr Jain

Welcome to Jain Hair Loss Institute

Dr. Sima Jain, MD, FAAD
Dr. Sima Jain, MD, FAAD
Founder & Medical Director
Dr. Sima Jain is a board-certified dermatologist and hair loss specialist with over 20 years of experience. She understands how hair loss can be emotionally devastating for both men and women, and this is why she founded the Jain Hair Loss Institute (JHLI). The clinic does not offer hair transplants, but rather centers on identifying the root cause of hair loss. Treatments focus on medications and procedures, such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) injections and microneedling, to promote hair growth. During the consultation, Dr. Jain will use a handheld, noninvasive device called a dermatoscope to examine the hair and scalp, identifying details not visible to the naked eye. If she suspects the hair loss is due to an underlying medical condition, deficiency or hormonal imbalance, she may also request to have blood work completed. After the evaluation, she will discuss treatment options that may include topical and oral medications, supplements and certain procedures to promote hair growth.
In addition to founding JHLI, Dr. Jain is also the medical director of ClearSkin Dermatology, a past president of the Florida Academy of Dermatology (FAD), and the published author of two dermatology books, one of which is a best-selling board review book for dermatologists. She has also been honored with the Premier Doctor Award by Orlando City Magazine for the past five consecutive years and has been recognized with multiple awards for her excellence in teaching.

Dr. Jain completed her undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. She moved to Chicago for her dermatology training at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and was selected as Chief Resident during her last year due to her excellence in teaching. Her special interests include hair loss, hormonal acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Types of Hair Loss

Types of Hair Loss

It is normal to lose anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair per day and this is part of the hair’s natural growth cycle. However, more than that could signify excessive hair shedding. Hair loss can occur either suddenly or gradually and the time frame helps determine the type of hair loss.

There are many causes of hair loss including illness, medical treatments, diet, stress, childbirth, underlying medical problems and hormonal imbalances. Even certain hair care practices can cause noticeable or worsening of existing hair loss. Please see below for more information on certain types of hair loss.

Frontal fibrosis alopecia
Alopecia areata
Telogen effluvium
Cicatricial alopeciaI
Androgenetic alopecia
